Crusaders, this week you will hear about all the wonderful things happening at Holy Cross through the lens of one of our first grade teachers, Mrs. Lacey Cusatis! We hope you enjoy reading about our school wide events as well as the special moments of grace and learning taking place inside one of our classrooms.

It has been a truly joyful and blessed week at Holy Cross. Looking out through the eyes of our first graders, there has been so much excitement, deep learning, and moments shared as a community to celebrate.

Following our restful Diocesan holiday on Monday, our students returned on Tuesday to a peaceful, productive day filled with learning.

Wednesday brought great energy to our campus as we hosted our second annual New Student Breakfast for grades 1 through 8. This gathering provided a warm opportunity for our newest Crusaders to feel deeply welcomed, connect with peers, check in with our school counselor and principal, and enjoy fun games together. Mrs. Carey, our cafeteria manager, served a delicious breakfast for everyone. We were also blessed to have several students who joined us last year step up as mentors to guide and encourage our new students. It was a beautiful testament to the hospitable spirit of our school.

That same day at lunch, our Home and School Association brought extra sweetness to our week with an ice cream sundae treat! Moments like these remind us that Holy Cross is truly a family where we learn, celebrate, and grow together in faith.

In first grade, anticipation is building for one of our favorite learning experiences of the year, our annual field trip to historic Old Odessa! Our students will step back in time to explore 18th century Delaware life. This immersive journey connects beautifully with our Reading and Social Studies standards as students discover how families lived, worked, learned, and played long ago.

Our first graders especially love experiencing history firsthand by crafting handmade toys and learning about traditional household chores. It is always a joy to witness their wonder as they discover how children played in centuries past and how families shared responsibilities around the home. This trip offers a meaningful educational experience beyond our classroom walls, bringing history to life while deepening the concepts we study in class.

This week, our entire school community joins together in joyful thanksgiving as we prepare to welcome home Father Giamello! We are profoundly grateful for his safe return from deployment, and we look forward to celebrating Mass with him at Holy Cross this weekend. Our faculty and students eagerly anticipate our first schoolwide Mass with Father. Gathering as a family of faith in prayer and worship around the Holy Eucharist is a sacred privilege.

We give thanks to God for the rich opportunities offered to our students each day. May we continue to pray, learn, and grow together, ever mindful that we are many parts, but we are all one body in Christ.

Blessings and peace,
