A Final Time Together as Crusaders
- Details
As we begin to close out another wonderful week in our school year, we are filled with gratitude as we reflect on the many special moments that took place throughout the week at Holy Cross.
On Monday, we held our final Field Day of the year. These days are always a highlight for our students and provide an opportunity for fun, teamwork, and fellowship. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Mr. Speed for the tremendous amount of time and effort he dedicated to planning and organizing these events. We are also incredibly grateful to our parent volunteers. Your willingness to share your time and talents helps make events like these possible, and we truly appreciate your support.
On Tuesday, our eighth grade students celebrated their final day as Holy Cross students. We wanted this milestone to be especially meaningful, so we held a Crusader Walk through our campus. Our eighth graders made their way through each building and hallway one last time while students and staff lined the halls to cheer them on. It was a beautiful tribute to their years at Holy Cross and a reminder of the impact they have had on our school community. Following the walk, they enjoyed a final picnic together and spent time reflecting on the friendships and memories they have created throughout the years.
Thursday was filled with prayer, celebration, and gratitude as we gathered for both our Eighth Grade Awards Ceremony and Prayer Service and our Pre Kindergarten End of Year Prayer Service. One of the most touching moments of the day was the connection between our youngest and oldest students. Throughout the year, our Pre Kindergarten students and eighth graders have served as prayer buddies, attending Mass together, participating in activities, and building meaningful relationships. During the awards ceremony, the Pre Kindergarten students surprised their eighth grade buddies by singing “You’ve Got a Friend in Me.” It was a heartfelt moment that beautifully demonstrated the bonds formed within our Holy Cross family. We are proud of all of our students who were recognized for their accomplishments and achievements.
Friday marked the final day of school for our Pre Kindergarten students. While it was difficult to say goodbye for the summer, the day was filled with smiles, laughter, hugs, and excitement for the adventures ahead.
That evening, we gathered together in our church for the Graduation Mass for the Class of 2026. It was a beautiful and prayerful celebration. Our graduates conducted themselves with reverence, dignity, and gratitude as they marked this important milestone. We could not be more proud of this remarkable group of young men and women. Throughout their time at Holy Cross, they have embodied our mission by living the Gospel of Jesus Christ, striving for academic excellence, and serving others with compassion and kindness. They have left a lasting legacy and have been wonderful role models for our younger students. While we will miss them greatly, we know they are prepared for the journey ahead and will continue to do great things in high school and beyond. They will always remain a cherished part of the Holy Cross family.
A special thank you to Ms. White and Ms. Riecks for their dedication and hard work in helping make graduation such a beautiful and memorable celebration. Congratulations once again to the Class of 2026.
Next week is our final week of school. We look forward to celebrating another successful year together as we finish report cards, hold our used uniform sale, gather in prayer, and reflect on the tremendous growth our students have made throughout the year.
As always, thank you for your continued support of Holy Cross. We look forward to closing out this school year together, rooted in faith and united in Christ.

Joy and Excitement for our Crusdars
- Details
This past week was a beautiful one at Holy Cross as we continued to celebrate the joy of the Easter season. Throughout our classrooms and across our campus, there were many opportunities for our students to learn, grow, and deepen their faith.
Our students enjoyed several exciting field trips this week. Fourth grade, fifth grade, and seventh grade students traveled off campus for educational experiences connected to their studies. Our junior high band and choir students also had the opportunity to attend the production of Joshua at Sight and Sound Theatre. This is always a memorable experience, especially for students who have a love for music and the performing arts. Seeing the story of salvation brought to life on stage was both inspiring and faith filled.
Our early childhood students were treated to a special on campus experience when one of our faculty members brought animals from her farm to school. This hands on learning opportunity brought great excitement and joy to our youngest Crusaders.
On Wednesday, we held our annual May Retreat Day, which was a truly beautiful celebration in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The day began with Mass, led by our second and eighth grade students. It was especially meaningful to see our second graders dressed in their First Holy Communion attire as they received the Eucharist with our school community for the first time.
Following Mass, our students and staff processed to the statue of Mary for our traditional May Crowning ceremony. Flowers were placed at Mary’s feet and a second grade and eight grade student crowned Mary as we honored our Blessed Mother and entrusted our school community to her loving care.
The retreat day continued with activities centered on Mary. Classes worked together and created flowers, prayed the Rosary, and shared time together in fellowship. It was a peaceful and prayerful day that reminded us of Mary’s example of faith, humility, and trust in God.
On Thursday, students participated in a Memorial Day TAG Day. Dressed in red, white, and blue, they also donated food items to help stock our on campus Samaritan Food Pantry before summer begins. We are grateful for the generosity of our families and for the opportunity to serve those in need.
On Friday, our faculty gathered for a professional development day focused on articulation meetings and planning for the year ahead. We also welcomed many new families to Holy Cross for a special event organized by Mrs. Rachel Barton, our new Director of Admissions and Enrollment. Families had the opportunity to meet one another, shop with our uniform partner, Cramer’s Uniforms, enjoy refreshments, and participate in a faith based craft activity.
Please note that school will be closed on Monday in observance of Memorial Day. We look forward to a busy and joyful week ahead filled with field days, field trips, and many special end of year events.
As always, thank you for your continued support of Holy Cross School.
In Christ,
Mrs. O’Mara
Joyful Moments Across Campus
- Details
As we continue through the beautiful month of May, our Holy Cross community has remained busy with many joyful moments shared across campus. From academic accomplishments to faith filled celebrations, this past week was a wonderful reflection of the spirit and heart of our school community.
This past week marked the conclusion of our final STAR testing window for the school year. Student testing results will be sent home to families on May 28 through the Thursday Communicator. These reports allow parents and guardians the opportunity to see the tremendous growth students have made since the beginning of the school year. It is always inspiring to reflect on the progress our students continue to make both academically and personally.
This past week also marked the beginning of many important celebrations for our 8th grade students, including their final exams and spirit week activities. It has been such a blessing to watch these students grow throughout their years at Holy Cross. We are incredibly proud of the young men and women they have become and look forward to celebrating them as they prepare for graduation. We hope these final weeks as Holy Cross students are filled with joy, laughter, friendship, and lasting memories as they prepare for the exciting journey ahead in high school.
On Tuesday evening, our 5th grade band, junior high band, and choir presented their spring concert performance. Our students did a beautiful job showcasing their musical talents and the hard work they have dedicated throughout the year. We extend a special thank you to Ms. Swartzentruber for her dedication, guidance, and support in helping our students grow in their musical abilities while coordinating such a wonderful performance for our school community.
Friday was an exciting day as students from two of our buildings traveled off campus for educational field trips. Our early childhood students enjoyed their first off campus field trip to the local fire house where they learned about fire safety and the important role firefighters play in keeping our communities safe. Our 5th grade students traveled to the John Dickinson Plantation where they had the opportunity to step back in time and experience history in a hands on and meaningful way. Through interactive learning experiences, students gained a deeper understanding of the importance of Delaware’s history.
Friday evening also brought a special celebration for our 8th grade students as they gathered together for their luau dinner and dance. We are incredibly grateful to Ms. Riecks and Ms. White for organizing such a memorable evening for our students. The event provided a wonderful opportunity for classmates to spend time together outside of the classroom while creating memories they will carry with them for years to come.
This Saturday, our 2nd grade students will receive the Sacrament of First Holy Communion. This sacred milestone is a deeply meaningful moment in the faith lives of our students and their families as they receive Jesus Christ for the very first time. We are so proud of the reverence, preparation, and devotion our students have shown throughout this journey of faith. As a school community, we hold our 2nd grade students close in prayer as they receive this beautiful sacrament and continue to grow in their relationship with Christ. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Mrs. Cutrona, Mrs. Wicks, and Mrs. Korosec for the care, dedication, and faith filled guidance they have provided in preparing our students for this blessed occasion.
As we look ahead to next week, students will enjoy a shortened week filled with field trips, field days, prayer, and Mass together as a school community. It is hard to believe the school year is beginning to wind down, and we look forward to finishing these final weeks with the same kindness, faith, pride, and Crusader spirit that have filled our campus all year long.
God Bless,
Mrs. O’Mara
