This past week the Delaware State Police with several agencies partnered for the Annual Public Safety Day at the Holy Cross School in Dover. The students and staff were introduced to many of the state and local agencies within Delaware. All classes were able to meet and interact with the First Responders that work in their community. Some of the First Responder presentations included: “Stranger Danger”, How to use 9-1-1, Bicycle safety, “Run, Yell, Tell,” Pedestrian Safety, Fire Safety and many more useful and safe strategies for students.

The Delaware State Police provided the Aviation Unit Helicopter Static Display, Mounted Patrol Unit Draft Horses, K-9 demonstrations, Collision Reconstruction Unit ‘Seatbelt Convincer’, Troopers from the Community Outreach Unit, Public Information Office, Youth Aid and Troop 3, Camden as well as a Public Safety Liaison/Coordinator.

We thank the following agencies and units for participating; the Dover Police Department Motor unit, Crime Scene, Evidence, Drug Unit and “Chase from Paw Patrol”, Kent County Paramedics, Delaware State Fire School, Dover Fire Department, Camden-Wyoming Fire Company, Delaware Department of Transportation and Delaware Office of Highway Safety.

"This was such a wonderful day for the students at Holy Cross School. To be part of a multi-agency effort dedicated to educating and bringing awareness to students from preschool to 8th grade was amazing. Working alongside of these professionals in the law enforcement community was an absolute pleasure," stated Master Corporal Angela Garnsey Delaware State Police, Public Safety Coordinator.

"It’s important that we teach our children that the real superheroes of our time are not the imaginary figures seen on the big screen; but rather to honor and respect those who have dedicated themselves and their real life, God given skills to the protection and security of our communities," explains Mrs. Linda Pollitt, Holy Cross School Administrator.
