Introduction to Spanish

The primary goal for Holy Cross School Spanish program is to develop communication skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing.  Students will develop cultural awareness and appreciation for the Hispanic global community, as well.

Students will:

  • Use courtesy expressions and appropriate greetings.
  • Identify letters and sounds of the Spanish alphabet, numbers and colors.
  • Learn phonetic sounds and syllables.
  • Build upon and associate vocabulary with the world around them.
  • Engage in conversational Spanish through dramatizations and presentations.
  • Conjugate verbs-regular and irregular.
  • Identify and recognize affirmative and negative sentences.
  • Recognize gender and number agreement between article and noun.
  • Identify adjectives.
  • Identify and use personal pronouns in singular and plural forms.
  • Demonstrate awareness of the Catholic religious experience of the various Hispanic cultures.
  • Develop an understanding of the holidays, traditions, history, music and art of the various Hispanic countries.
  • Identify the contributions of individuals of Hispanic heritage to the global community.
